PURE RUS STUDY - Felda Chini Timur & Felda Kg Salong, Pekan, Pahang DM

Yosh! Last weekend we have a good opportunity to join the faculty members organizing a health screening program in Felda areas. Only 5 of us managed to come; Harmizie, Alkaf, Nadhrah, Nadhihah & Junaidi. For you who don't know about this study, here is some explaination I've got from the faculty website.

"PURE (Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiological Study) is a prospective cohort study to track changing lifestyles, risk factors and chronic disease in urban and rural areas of 20 countries including Malaysia. It will involve a total of 120,000 subjects worldwide with 10,000 subjects from Malaysia. This study is sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with McMaster University, Canada. Prof Dato’ Dr Khalid Yusoff, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, UiTM Shah Alam is the principal investigator for PURE study in Malaysia. The subjects recruited will be screened for the risk of cardiovascular disease which cost RM 3,500.00 per person. Their health and well-being will be monitored for the next 15 years."

We went to Felda Chini Timur on Saturday and Felda Kg. Salong on Sunday. The number of villagers volunteering for the program was encouraging. It was quite fun and useful experiences since we can practice and polished again the skills of blood taking & sampling, performing ECG, spirometry etc.

We stay in Polo Inn, somewhere in the Pekan town. Got some murtabak, dine in my house, 1/2 hour tour in town (hahah!!). On Sunday evening, we spent a few hours in Teluk Chempedak, Kuantan before went back home the next day. The next visit will be in 2 weeks' time, around at the end of this month, also in Pekan.
